“Does a wind turbine technician have the capability to get a casualty from a wind turbine to emergency services whilst providing ongoing first aid?”

Alister has been specialising in fully integrated medical rescue training for a number of years.

His journey began with an unprecedented passion for advanced rescue within the wind industry and the desire for all technicians to achieve the best possible outcome in the event of an emergency. It became clear to him that decisions made during a rescue directly affect the condition of the casualty and should be discussed within the context of rescue during training.

To better facilitate this discussion, Alister progressed to instructing high level pre-hospital medical courses by completing a series of internal and external training including ATACC’s Rescue Trauma and Casualty Care (RTACC).

This unique skillset led to the co-creation and delivery of the world’s first fully integrated 6-day GWO EFA and ART course which was invaluable experience for instructors and participants. This inspired the co-creation and delivery of the global award winning bespoke Enhanced Rescue course for the construction phase of what was the world’s largest offshore wind farm at the time.

His consistent high-quality training has led to site specific operational opportunities both onshore and offshore. He has led the external review and testing of rescue plans for some of the world’s leading renewable energy companies across multiple sites.

In his spare time Alister can be found freezing in an ice bath, falling off boulders, or on a long-haul flight to explore new places and experience new cultures.
